The US state of Louisiana would be getting a new US$ 130 million cotton spinning plant, courtesy of the Gulf Coast Spinning Company, which plans to build the facility in the Bunkie Industrial Park of the state.

According to a statement issued by State of Louisiana Office of the Governor, the announcement of the cotton spinning facility was made by Governor of Louisiana Bobby Jindal and Gulf Coast Spinning Company CEO Dan Feibus recently at the Bunkie Industrial Park.

The construction of the cotton spinning plant would begin by mid-2014 and is expected to create more than 307 new direct jobs and 700 indirect jobs in the city of Bunkie.

Governor Jindal said during the announcement that the construction of the spinning mills proves what the extensive agricultural resources of Louisiana can produce, when combined with the state’s incomparable workforce and the investment of technology in state-of-the-art facilities.

The new cotton spinning facility in Bunkie will bring hundreds of jobs in the city and the Central Louisiana economy, providing great career opportunities for families in the state for many years to come, he added.

For the Bunkie project the Gulf Coast Spinning firm will receive the comprehensive workforce solutions of LED FastStart, a No. 1 ranked state workforce development program in the nation—at no cost to the company. Gulf Coast Shipping is also expected to utilize the state’s Quality Jobs and Industrial Tax Exemption programs for the construction purposes.

Dan Feibus, CEO of Gulf Coast, said the continued investment in Louisiana represents the firm’s belief that the state has the critical infrastructure, energy, and workforce advantages that will allow it to grow and prosper in the future.

Mike Robertson, Mayor of Bunkie, said the announcement of partnership between the city of Bunkie and Gulf Coast Spinning firm is a historic economic developmental milestone for the city and Central Louisiana.

The new cotton facility changes the future of the community and Central Louisiana, and the partnership would provide new work opportunities for people in the city, he added.
